BREAKING: Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski SHREDS Donald Trump’s sham investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, calling it “nothing more than an attempt at coercion.”

“After speaking with Chair Powell this morning, it’s clear the administration’s investigation is nothing more than an attempt at coercion,” Murkowski wrote on X. “If the Department of Justice believes an investigation into Chair Powell is warranted based on project cost overruns—which are not unusual—then Congress needs to investigate the Department of Justice.”

“The stakes are too high to look the other way: if the Federal Reserve loses its independence, the stability of our markets and the broader economy will suffer,” she added. “My colleague, Senator Tillis, is right in blocking any Federal Reserve nominees until this is resolved.”

Over the weekend, The New York Times revealed that the U.S. attorney’s office in D.C., under the leadership of MAGA hack and former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, has launched a criminal investigation into Powell over renovations to the Fed’s headquarters.

This completely fabricated “inquiry” is just the latest assault by this administration on our justice system and is designed solely to punish Powell for refusing to lower interest rates.

Trump is desperate to control the Fed’s policies directly because he wants to lower interest rates to goose our faltering economy. The fact that the Fed believes such a rate change is premature (in large part due to the stability of Trump’s disastrous tariffs) doesn’t factor into the president’s thinking. He will prioritize his own short term political interests over the long term health of this country every time.

Do we really want a man who has run business after business into the ground and declared bankruptcy over and over again to directly control America’s monetary policies?
