Today, the U.S. Senate voted on the Shutdown Fairness Act, a bill introduced by Republican Senator Ron Johnson to pay federal employees who continued working during the government shutdown. The bill failed to advance after falling short of the required 60 votes. The final vote was 53 in favor and 43 against, with only three Democrats supporting it.
But that vote was quickly overshadowed by a political earthquake in Washington.
More than 120 members of Congress, including Republicans and Democrats, have formally demanded that Donald Trump resign immediately or face impeachment and conviction. This bipartisan letter cites alleged corruption, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and threats to national security.
Seven U.S. senators have also joined the call, signaling real danger for Trump if impeachment moves forward. Trump has refused to resign, calling the lawmakers “traitors” and doubling down on his base.
With impeachment articles already advancing and Trump’s approval sinking, Congress has delivered an ultimatum: resign now—or be forced out.
